Experiments: To determine the value of lathe mechanical equivalent of heat by using Calender & Barne’s constant flow calorimeter

APPARATUS USED

1. Calender & Barne’s Apparatus:

It has horizontal corning glass tube open at both ends inside of which a heating element coil about 40 cm long made of Nichrome wire , is fitted operatable 6V DC. Polished wooden base: It is encased in it with a lined felt & proved with a hinged cover. Terminals: are brought at each end of the tube for the electrical supply. The horizontal tube: is connected either by rubber tube or rubber cork to the inlet & outlet system, each having a short vertical extension to accommodate a thermometer supplied the constant level tank:(100 x 75 mm dia) fitted with clamp on a tripod stand for maintaining water level
