Product Description
Experiments:
- To determine the rigidity modulus of the suspension wire using torsion pendulum.
- The torsion pendulum is an interesting example of simple harmonic motion, . It is helful in explaining the meaning of moment of inertia and moment of torsion and how they affect the period of vibration
- The period of oscillation of torsion pendulum is given as,
What is Torsional Oscillation?
A body suspended by a thread or wire which twists first in one direction and then in the reverse direction, in the horizontal plane is called a torsional pendulum. The first torsion pendulum was developed by Robert Leslie in 1793.
SPECIFICATIONS
The one end of suspension wire hangs from a universal clamp with the help of a chuck nut and the other end is clamped to a slid brass disc of 12.5 cm dia and 1.25 cm thick with help of chuck nut fitted in the centre.
A heavy metal ring of the same metal brass and the same outside diameter as the disc is included and is fitted on the larger disc with two pins provided on the larger disc. When the ring is placed on the disc, the moment of inertia, and therefore the period of vibration of the system, is increased.
Supplied with universal clamp
