To See value of y for air by Clement & Desorme’s method

Product Description

Experiments: To determine the value of (the ratio of two specific heats of gas) for air by Clement and Desorme's method. Apparatus used : A large flask of capacity near about 5 litres, liquid manometer and a compression pump

Formula used : The value of y is given by the relation Ay hy -hy where h, = difference of manometer levels when air is compressed in the flask and steady condition y=is attained. difference of manometer levels when the air has suffered adiabatic change and again flask

APPARATUS USED

1. Clement & Desorme app

It consists of a large flask F of capacity near about five litres. The flask is placed inside a wooden box packed with cotton wool, so as to protect the flask from quick changes of temperature from the atmosphere. Few drops of concentrated sulphuric acid are placed inside the flask to keep the air dry inside it. The flask is fitted with a metallic neck in which just at its centre passes a wide bore tube B. The tube B is provided with a stop cock T, by means of which the flask is directly connected to the atomosphere. In addition to this, there are two more side tubes fitted into neck. Tube A is connected to a compression pump by means of rubber tubing through a stop cock 7; and the tube C is connected to an oil manometer. A water manometer is not used here since the flask has to contain only the gas pure and dry.

2. Manometer: fitted on wooden base with Graduated scale.

3. Calcium Chloride Tower fitted on wooden stand

4. Air Pump rubber bellow with baloon is given instead of metal pump shown in the pic as it gets rusted ,to hold the ball

5. Rubber tubing, for connection is given
